#Review: Ode to a Pug by Jill Rosen

PURCHASE AMAZON

ABOUT THE BOOK:

A precocious pug delights in shenanigans which drive

her frazzled owner to declare she will give her pup away!

Laugh along with the snorting, snoring and gaseous clown

of the canine world as its owner struggles to reign

in the messes and mayhem of a new addition.

But there is nothing that a fewlicks and cuddles can’t fix, right?

A true delight that any family can relate to,

Ode to a Pug is full of heart… and a lot of slobber.

MY REVIEW:

Do you own a pug or think they are so adorable?

This author owns a pug and pens the cutest poem to her beloved dog. However, she has such a hate/love relationship. Her pug is cute and everything but the dog does some unsavory things like chew her favorite chair and poop on the carpets. Ugh, what is this pug owner to do? Give him away of course, that is until the day, she does not.

I do not currently own a dog but I can relate to many of the things this owner/author wrote about. It was quite amusing and yet, I could feel her frustrations. I laughed out loud at some of them.

The author's illustrations were cartoon-ish and added so much to the overall children's book. This was just simply too cute!

4 stars.

One of his special abilities is to telepathically hear and communicate with other animals, his Spirit Guides, and even people when necessary for his growth. About the Author

Trisha Watson has a reverence for life, nature, and compassion for those in need, including, and especially animals. Of course, that encompasses pets too, and thus all her dogs and cats over the years were rescues or strays. Because of her passion, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each book is donated to different animal rescue organizations. Twenty years of self-employment helped her develop a can-do attitude. When asked about the process of writing a book she said, “This story wouldn’t leave me alone, much of it flowed easily. Some of it I don’t remember writing, which at first was spooky, but later made complete sense as the story revealed itself. My intention with this book is to perhaps provide a source of inspiration and healing for those who read it.” At sixteen, Trisha began her spiritual journey. Over the years she has delved into many facets always with an open mind and a dash of healthy skepticism. Never looking back, she keeps moving forward in her own spiritual adventure, seeking to learn and share her experiences with others. Trisha was born in Rhode Island. A few years later her family moved to the “Mile High City” Denver, Colorado where she grew up. As an adult she was drawn to the mountains eventually settling in Evergreen, a small mountain town outside of Denver. It is there she’s built a life with her husband Mark and their two dogs, Maggie and Cooper.

Carl's Halloween by Alexandra Day #HalloweenBooks, #Halloween,#dogs, #vintage #Picturebooks

Summary:
Mom has to go help Grandma, but it's Halloween, and Carl and Madeleine don't want to miss out on the fun. So after Mom leaves, they make their own costumes and go out trick-or-treating by themselves. They even stop in at a party to bob for apples before they return safely to their house, content from their Halloween adventure and with Mom none the wiser.

My review:
Cons: An obviously too young of a child is left on her own to pass out Halloween candy. She takes off and goes to a party with her dog, Carl. She then returns and acts like she never left. Back in the day, this might not have been too bad a deal, usually neighbors watched neighbors kids as they ran around. Today, no one in their right mind would leave a child, especially this young, by themself and on Halloween no less. Not to mention, the child took off without Mom or anyone else knowing. I am pretty sure nobody would want to show that to their child. Strike 2!

Pros: Although I mentions some hefty things under the cons, this book was well illustrated. It is mostly a picture book with very few words in it. It is quite colorful and the illustrations look vintage with a time now gone by. If a parent was to read this with their child, I think they could overlook some of the things that made me cringe and simply just talk about the pictures themselves. It could also be a great book to talk about stranger danger and what to do if a child found themselves alone. Also, could talk about lying too or taking things that do not belong to you. +3

Overall, this book receives 3 pumpkins from me and mainly for illustrations that saved the book.

Disclosure: I obtained a copy from the local library. The views here are 100% my own and may differ from yours.~Michelle

Review of Diva Pearl the Pekingese

You surely have heard the phrase, "It's a dog's life" or other dog related phrases to describe how well treated some dogs can be. Well, in the case of one Pekingese breed dog that is an understatement.

Enters Miss Pearl Essence otherwise known as Diva Pearl, Miss Pearl or just plain Pearl.
Pearl is a real dog champion that won several awards including Best In Show and two time best of opposite sex for the breed.

Pearl steps out of retirement after seven year to become the magazine cover for Orient Express in 2012 but to also have her very own book entitled, Diva Pearl the Pekingese which included a CD of two songs and video written just for her. Would you believe she has her own web page and Facebook page too. A diva just has to have her things.

Upon reading the book "written" in Pearl's voice, with the help of her human, Vicki Gattuso, the reader learns a little tidbit about how the Pekingese were bred in China and how they became worshipped. Most of all the reader follows along with Pearl in her journey from birth, becoming a champion, becoming a mother, retirement and her comeback gigs after showbiz.

With over 57 pages of photos with Pearl in all her diva-ness which includes family and friends, one simply cannot get enough of her.
*************

Overall, I thought the book was cute and certainly over the top for a dog. However, kids and dog lovers alike will certainly like this book.

The photos are bright and fun. This is no ordinary dog as her awards and life attests to.
The book is classified as a picture book due to the amount of photos in the book so, a really young child as young as 1 year old up to 8 will love this.

The only thing I found to be cheesy about this was the included CD. To me, it really leant nothing to the book other than being a little bonus for those who would purchase the book.  Frankly, I do not get the writing of two songs to a Champion Pekingese. Maybe though, that is just me.

I give this book: 3 Stars.

~Naila Moon

PS. In Diva Pearl's book insert of information, there was a card that said she was available for movie rolls, just in case anyone is interested.
