Each beautifully designed spread represents a letter and provides concise, age-appropriate definitions, with subject matter spanning issues like racial justice, climate change, gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, income disparity, voter engagement, and immigration.</span></i></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;"><b>My Review:</b></span></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">This has to be one of the most interesting book reviews I have ever done. The reason is, this book is essentially a dictionary, but not just any dictionary. This is a book of terms that are now used in the 21st century. </span></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">Designed in A-Z format, the terms are laid out clear and concise. The terms are great information for any child, and for that matter adult, to understand. The terms are accurate for today.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">In addition, there are 15 side page illustrations that feature a prominent person throughout history that has advocated for justice as a young child. I found these to be helpful and great to coincide with different dictionary terms and corrects some history that had been previously altered.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">I recommend this book as an addition to all classrooms and homes.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">5 stars.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The views here are 100% my own and may differ from yours. NOTE:I am aware of others opinions on different subjects presented in this book. I review books based on the work, not on societal opinions. It is horrible that I must put this caveat to my review but if you leave any kind of hatred or bullying messages, I will remove them promptly and report you.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #0f1111; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">~Michelle, Reading Authors Network</span></span></p>Michelle aka Naila Moonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14085797149191658262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2179223039933905499.post-43832378684752963082024-02-13T14:52:00.001-07:002024-02-13T14:52:28.859-07:00#GuestPost: Author Anna St. John, Author of "Clocked Out"<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-9SooQVKSRdFvjM71oWZ2uX6eMYCXFrFGfCvzU0xvTZlTzNZrDAyuxOX1GnUwb4hFFlavjzjgr6Unq4gDnToQBVJPR8EpcET1m9hkUaESd89TmwufIlPbhO50Yzqt9gVCt_9I3DBpyxQHR8oKhJEfBv0TB0G5YiLkwfB0tHeoyBVFFHXDvWYAij_VJUQ/s626/clocked%20out%203%20for%20cover%20reveal.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="626" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-9SooQVKSRdFvjM71oWZ2uX6eMYCXFrFGfCvzU0xvTZlTzNZrDAyuxOX1GnUwb4hFFlavjzjgr6Unq4gDnToQBVJPR8EpcET1m9hkUaESd89TmwufIlPbhO50Yzqt9gVCt_9I3DBpyxQHR8oKhJEfBv0TB0G5YiLkwfB0tHeoyBVFFHXDvWYAij_VJUQ/s320/clocked%20out%203%20for%20cover%20reveal.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><i><span style="font-family: courier;">Hello everyone. </span></i></p><p><i><span style="font-family: courier;">On my blog today, I am welcoming guest author, Anna St. John, author of her cozy mystery, "Clocked Out". The</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">answer is a simple one: I write about familiar subjects, or topics</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">that interest me. Every day, I search for inspiration for the next</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">chapter, or the next book. It would be so nice if we could</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">purchase it in a jar off the grocery shelf whenever we needed it.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Because I grew up during the days when exercise consisted of</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">“jumping jacks” and water came from the faucet (free), I am</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">fascinated by the complexities of today’s society. Who knew we</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">needed “goat yoga” classes and bottled water in every</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">backpack? And don’t even get me started on coffee shops where</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">you can order an oat milk pumpkin spice latte. All of these</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">things inspire me to write about them.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">I once took a picture of a jar of pickles at a farmer’s market in</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Oregon, because I thought it might be perfect in a future cozy</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">mystery. The sales message on the jar proclaimed: “Dill Death</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Do Us Part.” Can we think of this as “pickled” inspiration?</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">It takes time to research and write a book. One way to assure the</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">story connects with a reader is to keep it authentic, with details</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">that ring true. So, when I decided to write cozy mysteries, I</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">thought first about some of the things I enjoy most in my</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">everyday life – where I live in a small town, play a friendly</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">game of mahjong each week, and own an Old English sheepdog.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">It wasn’t a stretch to imagine a cozy mystery with an amateur</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">sleuth who owned a fluffy dog and joined a group of friends for</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">mahjong on Wednesdays.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Then I thought of Nancy Drew’s roadster and chose a little red</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">convertible for my sleuth, Josie Posey, to drive. The car is</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">important because it makes a statement about Josie’s desire to</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">stay young and active, in defiance of her recent retirement. And,</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">while you might also find a vintage red convertible in my garage</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">at home, Josie’s is much newer – with all the modern features,</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">like seatbelts and a radio.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Once I had the setting and the primary characters in my mind,</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">the similarities between real life and the fictional world came to</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">an end. Nothing in my past could have prepares me to choose a</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">victim or devise a murder weapon. For those important aspects,</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">I was free to imagine all kinds of possibilities.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Here are some of the small things that inspired the Josie Posey</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">series:</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">1. Ballet. I’ve always loved ballet and thought it offered an</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">opportunity to bring something exotic into the little</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">village -- including a beautiful dancer with a mysterious</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">past, a former dance partner, and her overbearing</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">husband. The friction between the ex-partner and the</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">current husband provided an interesting situation for</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">book one, Doomed by Blooms.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">2. Naked Ladies. These flowers bloom in our yard every</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">summer. They inspired me to consider how similar they</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">are to a dancer, with a slender stem and a tutu of</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">blossoms. I thought they would be a natural compliment</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">to the story – particularly when my research indicated</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">the blooms could be poisonous.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">3. Clocks. While I knew nothing about how to build a</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">clock, I was fascinated with time as a topic. I hoped</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">readers might find it interesting, as well. After a little</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">research, I was inspired to use the world of luxury watch</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">manufacturers as a central theme for book two in the</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">series, Clocked Out.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">4. Blacksmith Shop. Near our local library, I noticed a</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">working blacksmith shop where “metal artisans” created</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">all kinds of interesting tools. Their dedication inspired</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">me to create my own blacksmith shop in the Josie Posey</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">series.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Because we are encouraged to “write what we know,” authors</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">generally draw from their own person experiences and</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">preferences for inspiration. I am convinced this is why so many</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">of us include bookstores and libraries as locations, and dogs and</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">cats as characters.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Regardless of where we find inspiration, authors work hard to</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">entertain their readers. To me, the best ideas are the ones that</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">are simple, but memorable. I want the details of the story to</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">create an emotional connection between my readers and the</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">story. I hope readers will fall in love with the characters, root for</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">them to succeed, and celebrate with them when they do – and</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">perhaps find a little inspiration of their own, in the process.</span></p>Michelle aka Naila Moonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14085797149191658262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2179223039933905499.post-68550049009354643002024-02-13T13:43:00.000-07:002024-02-13T13:43:01.144-07:00#Review: The Two-Cent Piece by Dennis Conrad #giveaway #InGodWeTrust #bookseries #childrensbooks<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIQjxsqS-ne5rcEexHOWjeU9XwxbW_uFVVsdt4NGWIGJichUeVnJm7vJAW0LV72OOjprTGtYNPtD5s8Ai2dUrcYzvIgLe-BvxSQcFWFxfPXimKKZCImCc6t0EMhQHMOEg5OXAjJELm9fM8GPkO1o9LiiHbHdzVYsavwJJowW396JbMhbh65GtEWINvRs/s1920/The%20Two-Cent%20Piece%20Book%20Cover%20%281%29.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="400" data-original-height="1920" data-original-width="1893" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIQjxsqS-ne5rcEexHOWjeU9XwxbW_uFVVsdt4NGWIGJichUeVnJm7vJAW0LV72OOjprTGtYNPtD5s8Ai2dUrcYzvIgLe-BvxSQcFWFxfPXimKKZCImCc6t0EMhQHMOEg5OXAjJELm9fM8GPkO1o9LiiHbHdzVYsavwJJowW396JbMhbh65GtEWINvRs/s400/The%20Two-Cent%20Piece%20Book%20Cover%20%281%29.jpg"/></a></div>

The book is an American Civil War story about Anne, a young girl who collects coins. Anne’s three brothers enlist in the Union Army in 1864. To encourage their faith in God, Anne gives each brother a two-cent piece, the first coins with the inscription “In God We Trust.” One brother, Thomas, doubts his faith until there is a battlefield miracle involving his coin.</span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #1e1915; font-family: courier;"><b>MY REVIEW</b>:</span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">In this first book of a series, the author introduces the art of coin collecting with a two-cent piece. Although, the book written as historical fiction, it tells the tale of three brothers going to the civil war.The sister in the book gives them coins that are meant to protect them.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">The story has large Christian overtones with verses, prayer moments, and the coins themselves. "In God We Trust" is the key to it all. This is extremely intentional on the author's part but also historically accurate.</span></span></p><p style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">I liked this book's story. Children can certainly relate to coin collecting and the missing and hoping for a loved ones safe return.</span></span></p><p style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">What is a nice little addition is a glossary of terms, scriptural passages, terms about the particular coin, and how to collect coins.</span></span></p><p style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">Do you have an up and coming coin collector? Or maybe you have a history buff? Or want books related to scriptural passages? <p><span style="font-family: courier;"><b>ABOUT THE BOOK:</b></span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;"><i style="color: #1f1f1f;">Marcus and the Emperor’s Coin </i><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;">is an exciting adventure in the Ancient Roman Empire at the time of Christ. Eight-year-old Marcus and his father are on a mission for the Emperor and visit a mine and a mint where coins are made. Marcus finds himself making a denarius, a coin with the emperor’s image.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><b>MY REVIEW:</b></span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">Do you have an up and coming coin collector? Or maybe you have a history buff? Or want books related to scriptural passages? If so,this is the second in the series you should get. </span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">The story is simple but interesting in how the two main characters, a father and son, come to not only bring coins but make a denarius. Marcus, the young boy is concerned that he will mess up this mission but ends up saving it.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">As the story unfolds he meets a messenger of a different kind who makes him think about the money he just made. "Give to the emperor the things that are his, and to God the things that are God's."</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">In his pondering he comes to know that he is now on a very different mission and ready for it.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">I liked this book's story. Children can certainly relate to wanting to please their parents but the side catch of being interested in things, in this case coins.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">What is a nice little addition is a glossary of terms, scriptural passages, terms about the particular coin, and how to collect coins.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">5 stars.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">Disclosure: The views expressed here are 100% my own and may differ from yours. It is causing shifts in the Earth that are unprecedented. This is a hot topic (excuse the pun) and one that is important to me. Once I got into the book, I could not put it down.</p><p><br /></p><p>This book is aimed at 10 year old's and up but if a child is a good reader, then this book should be put in their hands. The story tells of two different children in two different climates that have become affected by climate changes. Each child has a hardship. The topic may be sensitive to children who have lost a parent or family members but are needed. The book highlights the fact that loss of all kinds can happen due to these changes. I really liked that the author's did not gloss that over. </p><p><br /></p><p>I also enjoyed the nice little twist at the end that allowed children to see that the world is often not so small after all. Read the book, you will love what the author's did there.</p><p><br /></p><p>The multiple author's did an excellent job of explaining what global warming is and the story flowed well. But, the best parts of the book were the graphics themselves. In your face and honesty this book would not have done as well without them. Kudos to a great book that I highly recommend for all schools, homeschools, and libraries!</p><p><br /></p><p>Disclosure: I received a copy from the publicist. I have read both already but read them in reverse. It did not matter because poetry stands alone. However, the poems are categorized into sections. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;"> As I have also read her children's books, which are mostly rhyming, she parts from this in this book.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Some of the poems are short haiku and others are longer prose. All of the poems, the author writes about love and loss.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">The poetry is so well written, you can get lost in the reading of them. In the last section of the book, entitled, "Tails of Heartache and Anguish", I found myself crying as I could relate to the feeling.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">If you enjoy poetry or simply want to read a short 154 page book, this is for you! 5 stars.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">~Michelle, Reading Authors Network</span></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the author. Dr. Dribble, the big-hearted dolphin dentist, has a jaw-dropping fear of his own, and a strict “No Sharks Allowed” policy. When Fearless Flossy makes an unannounced visit to Dr. Dribble’s office, it’s the start of an underwater adventure like no other! This ‘fin-tastic’ story is a must-read for kids and parents alike. Young readers will be immersed in a tale of courage, compassion, and conquering fear, while giggling and cheering for these unlikely friends along the way.Dive in with a big Biff Bam Booza smile.</span></p>
<span style="font-family: courier;"><b>My review:</b><br /><br />
Take out your toothbrushes and your floss! The gentle dentist is in town...um, under the sea, to take care of a great-white sharks teeth problem. However, this shark queen is terribly afraid of dentist as much as he is afraid of her. What to do?<br /><br />This well done picture book tells the tale of not only what happens but the main idea to be kind. Children reading this book can get the concept of kindness to others even if possibly being afraid. Of course the other main idea here is to take care of one's teeth as it is a part of overall health of the body. This may mean to face fears, as many people do have fear of the dentist.<br /><br />I love this story coupled with the larger than life pictures and it was well put together. I loved the word usage too, some funny, some made up. SUPER-ATROCIOUS-HALITOSIS-ITIS is my favorite!<br />I was swept out to see as the story unfolded. This book deserves the 5 stars I am giving it.<br /><br />Disclosure: I received a copy of this book. The views here are 100% my own and may differ from yours. ~Michelle, Reading Authors Network

My rating: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6037797990">4 of 5 stars</a><br /><br />
This is the first book I have ever read from this author. I am not sure why I had not before because her sweet little angels with the cutest of names, get into a bit of mischief. <br />The budding romance in the story was complicated and a bit sappy but I kind of saw this story as the cozy of novels. Of course it ended up as a happy ending. (no spoiler alert intended)<br />It is no wonder why many of the authors books have become Hallmark feature movies, this one fit right in!<br /><br />I really did like the book and it was just enough twist to keep me going. I did think the characters did not act their age and seemed more teenage-ish but even that was okay for me. Maybe it is because the story starts with New Year's Eve and morphs quickly to Christmas. Or maybe it was because the woman in the story did not give up her restaurant for romance with a man.<br /><br />I know all the boxes ticked for me for a feel good book.<br /><br />Disclosure: I purchased a copy of this book for my own collections. Will Humpty Dumpty be left in pieces when his friends notice that he's fallen off the wall? And who will get bags of wool--and toys and books--from Baa Baa BRIGHT Sheep? Read all about the beloved characters from traditional nursery rhymes in this endearing collection of eight updated rhymes that nurture kindness, empathy and gratitude!</span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;"><b>My review:</b></span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">When I decided that I was going to review this book, I only knew that it was a rhyming book and the cover was cute. What I did not know is how adorable this book turned out to be and old rhymes transformed for a new generation.</span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">I grew up with all of the traditional rhymes presented here, in fact, years later I would tell them to my own children and kids that I took care of teaching preschool. However, the new is pleasurable to read and gives new meanings. </span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">I do want to note that the stories themselves are not the wow factor, the book itself is not intended for that purpose. However, I loved it and simply know that kids will too. The illustrations are so bold and with the cuteness overload it is for sure a winner!</span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">Each rhyme has those cute little mice in each one and presents an emotion for young readers to talk to parents or educators about. If talking about it is not enough, in between each rhyme is a page of EMOJIS that gives pause to point and discuss feelings. Awesome! 😀</span></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;">Since we are in a new millennium and different age of technology each story is also downloadable to hear on a computer or phone. Yes, I did listen to each one! This was specifically designed to help children who are in need of additional listening skills.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1f1f1f; font-family: courier;"><br /></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #1f1f1f;"><span style="font-family: courier;"></span></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: courier;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOOCWLs-XxCeJJnNneCt74K2Vg9zInnITKroyTvdM_sZzbRlMt_U1QZvsyKV23XKXUnFC1wn12uT2bnMWz3rMUs8U4zXhCEvd-uSpxhKZnZE4V50gKu2gEsTseVoV11ud4VQMnzZxXJcVbkDjoslZu264yH7lUTGCQUYKxBVqtbnZ19qK7dq2YEceqoAY/s480/Screenshot%202023-11-28%204.26.29%20PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="299" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOOCWLs-XxCeJJnNneCt74K2Vg9zInnITKroyTvdM_sZzbRlMt_U1QZvsyKV23XKXUnFC1wn12uT2bnMWz3rMUs8U4zXhCEvd-uSpxhKZnZE4V50gKu2gEsTseVoV11ud4VQMnzZxXJcVbkDjoslZu264yH7lUTGCQUYKxBVqtbnZ19qK7dq2YEceqoAY/s320/Screenshot%202023-11-28%204.26.29%20PM.png" width="199" /></a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: courier;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: courier;">If that is not enough, resources and activities are also downloadable via QR code for further enhancements for those children who need help with stronger language skills. </span></div><p></p><p><span style="font-family: courier;">This book has just enough bells and whistles needed to make it a solid 4 star book. They want to enjoy going out in the snow but have to work together inside first to get to go outside. Outside they encounter some bigger kids who beat them at a snowball fight. They must learn once again to use their twin powers to overcome their nemesis.</span></span><p></p><p><span style="color: #1e1915; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">Unlike the first book that focused on the fact they are twins, this book focused on working together. Yes, it also highlighted the two being twins but showed other kids that the two can work together to accomplish something great. Overall, that was the main message of this follow-up book and it did shine through.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #1e1915; font-family: courier;"><span style="background-color: white;">I do want to mention that the illustrations in both books are colorful and large. Yes, I am one of those tree huggers and kissers. Maybe that is strange ,but it made me want to read and review this lovely children's book. For me, to have a tree talk back would be awesome!</span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;">In this sweet book, the main character, Amanda, is just looking out for her kitten when she encounters the different personalities of trees that want to get to know a human. Isn't that cool?</span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;"><br /></span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;">I loved how each tree she encountered took time to know her and she to know them. Oh yes, she encountered one that was afraid of her too. That tree's fear was based upon natural things for a tree, like being cut down by humans. But kindness prevailed and understanding won out. If this does not sound familiar to life, then what is? I could not get enough of the tree to human conversation. This conversation also was for kids who could read fairly well. Although this book was most likely marketed as a picture book, it was anything but. The sentences are complex and meaningful.</span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;"><br /></span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;">If the story did not grab me enough, then there is the illustrations themselves. The author not only wrote the book but did them too. Each two page spread had a specific kind of tree that accompanied the pages. All the art work was done in black and white which made this reader wonder what they looked like but that is where the story became appealing.</span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;"><br /></span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;">This is such a well done book and I hope that the author might do a follow up. Great job! 5 stars for sure!</span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;"><br /></span></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-family: courier;">DIsclosure: I received a copy of this book to review. Three years in the making, Burns strives to convey a world where commonalities are more important than differences, where empathy is more important than distain and where making friends is more important than creating enemies. With no formal art training, Burns enjoys working in and learning new mediums and styles. His art has won awards in juried competition, been displayed on billboards, in government offices, the D’Amour Museum of Fine Art, and now graces the cover of Dave Brinnel's second CD, ALONE. His detailed illustrations of trees using pen and ink with washes of watercolor have been compared to the fantastical illustrations of Arthur Rackham and Maurice Sendak. Burns lives in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts with his wife, Heather and two dogs, where he is developing ideas for his next book.</span></span><p></p></div>
