I have always been an old school horror movie fan. Michael Okon's (formerly Michael Phillip Cash) brilliance was prevalent throughout the entire book and his love for this movie genre showed.
In this second book in the Monsterland series, Michael laced, The Mummy, The Blob, Frankenstein, and The Werewolf all into one beautiful retelling that only he could do.
I loved that returning characters from the first book had matured and found themselves in roles that seemed nearly impossible. The new characters written worked seamlessly with the old. The best thing was seeing them working together to fight a common enemy even though they were by far different in thought and action.
It was also not lost on me the subtle comments on our own current society that were inserted in such a way that it seemed they were part of the book.
Great read and worth the 5 stars it is getting from me. Ps. I can't wait to see more Melvin! Read the book and you will know.

My review: As I was a History major in college, I thought reading Michael Phillip Cash's newest novella book would be interesting. I was correct and wrong at the same time. Yes, his book was interesting but even more so down right thought provoking. As usual, the author weaved bits of history into his book which you would expect from such a title but the history was a far cry from Long Island where many of his stories have taken place. The main character development was so craftily handled in such a way that at times, it was hard to distinguish between present reality and past history. I kept wondering how all these characters fit together. As I said, it took me some time to understand what exactly was happening and left me on the edge of my seat at every page turn. The ending was a stunner and left me still questioning, "What if..." The whole book was meant to learn from History in order to not make the same mistakes now. I suppose the whole questions begs, "Have we?" "Will we?" This is not the usual paranormal book I have come to enjoy from Michael Phillip Cash. My review: I made the mistake of reading this book, albeit in one sitting while it was dark out and only a bit of light from my lamp shining. In fact, throughout reading this book, I often gasped and had to catch my breath. I would not go far as to say this was a complete blood and guts book, but it did have its share of horror in it but not enough to make me want to stop reading it. I was able to figure out a couple of twists in the book early on, but that did not give away the meat of the book nor again, me wanting to not finish the book. In fact, I felt the book was thought provoking. It begged the question of how we humans can enjoy something like a "monster" theme park for the sheer pleasure of the thrill. The book begged the question; do something that is non-human have feelings or wants? Think, a zoo perhaps. I found myself feeling somewhat sorry for the "monsters" of Monsterland who wanted nothing but to be left alone to live as they had always lived. It was no question to me as who was really the monsters in the so-called theme park. So, do I recommend this book? You bet! This is one book that I surely will read again and again. 5 stars!
