#Review: Angel Child, Dragon Child by Michele Maria Surat/Illustrated by Vo-Dinh Mai #AtoZChallenge #Multicultural #ReadingRainbowBooks #ScholasticBooks

Little Ut from Vietnam wins her schoolmates over with kindness and sensitivity.

My review:
This is a story about a young girl from Vietnam who is alone in the U.S. without her Mom for comfort. She endures bullying by the children she goes to school with because of her speech, name, clothes, and traditions. One boy in particular is always mean to her.

Angel child refers to her tolerating others and being good in the eyes of her mother. Dragon child means that she is non-tolerant and does not want to be patient with others.

In the end, the same child who bullies her learns a little bit about her and helps her and her family in a big way.
This was a sweet book and goes to show that bullying can be stopped if we learn about each other. It points out that kindness is key to everything and family holds importance.

The book was done in extremely muted colors with simple hand drawn characters. The illustrations give the feel of simplicity which I believe was intentional.

This book was featured as a Rainbow Reading Book. I give it four stars.

Look Out For Me In April #AtoZChallenge

Tomorrow begins the annual A-Z Challenge. This year, I will be here posting all book reviews. Most of the reviews will be children's books but some will be of the mystery genre. There may be only a spotlight or two. There will also be a couple of giveaways and of course, the Kid Lit Blog Hop that I host every month.

I will try to get around to as many people as possible but with nearly 2000 people participating, that is not feasible to get to everyone.  In any case, I do hope you will stop here at least once or twice during the month and say hello. Yes, let me know you are here and I will come visit.

Happy April everyone!

PS>Please stop at my other blog too, Just the Stuff Ya Know, where I have decided to do music postings again!

The noise in the marketplace is deafening, and at times can be a bit overwhelming for authors trying to promote their books.

BookGrabbr created a way to generate some more buzz by harnessing the power of each individual author’s social media platform.  Once you create your profile on BookGrabbr it allows potential readers to read a preview of your book or the full copy and then directs them to your site of choice to purchase your book in the format that you desire. And since BookGrabbr doesn’t make any money on book sales, you can send them to a retailer, or to your own personal page or wherever you choose! BookGrabbr's purpose is to help you sell more books, gain momentum and generate exposure.

See how it works:

Don't Push the Button by Bill Cotter #PutMeInTheStory

There's only one rule in Larry's book: don't push the button.
(Seriously, don't even think about it!)
Even if it does look kind of nice, you must never push the button. Who knows what would happen?
Okay, quick. No one is looking... push the button.
Uh, oh.

My review:
I have been absolutely enthralled with this book since I received it. My copy included personalization of names and photos. I decided to make this one for my grandson. His name and photos are throughout the book which made it completely fun to read. I was even able to leave a dedication.

The book itself is about a purple monster named Larry who is the keeper of the button. He tells you not to push it but then changes his mind. All sorts of things happen as the button continues to get pushed. Oh, boy!

This is a fun, interactive book that I know any kid would love to read over and over. It is great especially for an emerging reader.

The pictures are line draw with colored pencil. Although simple, they do add to the book and the overall appeal.

This is a 5 star winner!
