Pumpkin Heads by Wendell Minor #review #CountdowntoHalloween2023

When I picked up this book, the title humored me. I was thinking about the trend that has happened the last couple of years of people photographing themselves with pumpkins on their heads.  I am very wrong!

If you have a little one that loves the pumpkin patch or Halloween, then this is the book for them. This mostly picture book has very few words. It takes the "reader" on a little ride and shows different pumpkins in all of their glorious designs.  Here you will see pumpkins on hay rides or peeking out of a haunted house.

Although, my reaction to it initially was wrong, it is still cute. I am sure really young kids would love talking and pointing at each page. Mostly that is the whole point of this book.

I can only give it though, 2 pumpkins and that is probably being generous. I think the author could have done much better in the writing part of the book.

Pumpkin Countdown by Joan Holub #Halloween #pumpkins #review #bookseries

My review:

Did you know that pumpkins are 90% water and that a vine can grown up to 30 feet long? Well, I didn't either. This is just a couple of the facts written on the inside cover of this cute counting book.

A class takes a field trip to a pumpkin patch. Along the way, they count down from twenty. Items in the countdown are the number of kids on the bus, the number of  things they guess they will see on the farm, and the number of animals in the petting zoo. Of course, there is a whole bunch more to count like the different kinds of pumpkins and a load of trivia about pumpkin growing. At the end of the book was a rhyming song. Of course, you will have to read the book to find out what it is. I can say, it is a familiar tune.

As I have read and reviewed many of this author's books, I also enjoyed this one. The whole book was done in rhyme which made it appealing. Another things I liked about the book was the students were all diverse characters, including their teacher, Ms. Blue. Each had colorful names and clothing too. It does help that Fall is my favorite time of year and I like pumpkin patches. *wink*

I loved this book as a whole and is quite different from usual counting books. I give this book 5 pumpkins.

Stumpkin by Lucy Ruth Cummins #Halloween #pumpkins #individuality

Summary:
Stumpkin is the most handsome pumpkin on the block. He’s as orange as a traffic cone! Twice as round as a basketball! He has no bad side! He’s perfect choice for a Halloween jack-o-lantern.

There’s just one problem—Stumpkin has a stump, not a stem. And no one seems to want a stemless jack-o-lantern for their window.

As Halloween night approaches, more and more of his fellow pumpkins leave, but poor Stumpkin remains. Will anyone give Stumpkin his chance to shine?

My review:
Each pumpkin was taken from a shop a little at a time. Each was turned into a jack-o-lantern and sat in a window. Stumpkin was the only one left because he had no stem. On Halloween night he finally gets taken by...

As I was reading along, suddenly there was two black pages. This seemed that Stumpkin was doomed. In fact, I thought the book had ended, leaving this reader to wonder what happened to the poor pumpkin. Fortunately, I realized just to turn the page.

Although this book was simplistic, I really truly liked everything about it. First of all, there is the illustrations. Every page is done in browns, blacks, splashes of orange, and touches of green. This gave the feeling of a bit of spookiness without being spooky.

Also, the whole point in this book, at least in my mind, was to be yourself and be patient because good things will come about if you do.

This book gets 4 pumpkins from me.
