The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade #review #Halloween #YA #ghost #bookseries

About the book:

Alona Dare–Senior in high school, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, Homecoming Queen three years in a row, voted most likely to marry a movie star… and newly dead.

Will Killian–Senior in high school, outcast, dubbed “Will Kill” by the popular crowd for the unearthly aura around him, voted most likely to rob a bank…and a ghost-talker.

My review:
High school is great when you are popular and not so great when you aren't. This book pits the two people, one from each group together via one tragedy, an accidental death. The unlikely duo meet when Alona dies and Will hears and see her spirit. Each of them learn about each other and work together to help other dead while battling their own demons.

Although this is a YA book and a bit campy at times, I did enjoy reading the juxtapose between the two characters. Each chapter was from the view point of one or the other and that made it more interesting or it could have really drug on.

I thought the characters were pretty well developed but as one might expect, there was a romantic interlude. I thought it could have been left out and just maybe hinted at the budding romance. There was also a hint of two minor character's lesbian relationship. It was so minor you could almost call it a blip and seemed meh to the rest of the story line.

I loved the ghosts and their personalities in the story and I can say though the few twist there were, I was taken a bit by surprise and that worked out well for the book.

The cover is very cool! Overall, a decent read and I think younger teens would enjoy.

I give this book 4 pumpkins.

Disclosure: I purchased this book for my own collections. The view here is 100% my own and may differ from yours.
