Olivia and the Haunted Hotel by Jodie Shepherd #Review #ghost #Imagination #pigs #Halloween #Childrensfiction

About the book:

On a dark and rainy afternoon after school, Olivia and her friends decide to play "hotel". Olivia's brother, Ian, keeps insisting that the hotel is haunted. Everyone else thinks he's joking, but when things take a spooky turn, and strange noises can be heard all around, Olivia and her friends start to wonder whether a mysterious ghost really is haunting Hotel Olivia!

My review:

This book is based off of a TV series of Olivia. Kids get a chance to have a little, and I do mane little,  Halloween spookiness when Olivia, the main character, decides to have her own hotel. She does everything that a hotel owner would do except one very important thing, play with her brother. But her hotel is not haunted...or is it?

Although a simple book in illustrations, this book is a great emergent reader book with complex sentences. I loved reading how Olivia had a room especially designed for each of her guests. Even though her guests thought it was haunted, she made them feel okay about wanting to stay there. What are friends for after all?

I will say if you are looking for a "spooky or Halloween" book, this is not it. Younger kids will like it as it does have a "ghost" but older children will probably think it corny. In any case, still, a cute book.

I give it 3 Halloween pumpkins.

Disclosure: I obtained a copy of this book for my own collections out of a Little Free Library. The review here is 100% my own opinions and may differ from yours. ~Michelle, Reading Authors Network
